European Commission

As we kick off 2025, the EU keeps standing for your digital rights.

The Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act are in full force to make sure companies play fair.

Here’s how ↓

✅ Protecting European citizens and their fundamental rights

In the EU, platforms are responsible for tackling risks of illegal content, election security, child protection, and marketplace safety. We opened investigations on several platforms.

✅ Ensuring open and fair digital markets for businesses and consumers

We ensured all designated gatekeepers, Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Booking, ByteDance, Meta, and Microsoft, complied with the Digital Markets Act.

✅ Clarity on illegal content

What is illegal offline has no place online. No platform is asked to remove any lawful content, but platforms must have appropriate risk mitigation measures for content that is potentially harmful, for example for children.

@EUCommission

I hope we are keeping an eye on Meta's new policy regarding insults and harassment towards specific groups of people. All EU citizens have the same rights, regardless of their gender, sexuality, or birthplace. And Meta does not have the right to change that. Companies operating against our core values have no place in the EU. Freedom for people, regulations for companies. 🇪🇺

@EUCommission So, then when is the commission going to act on Musk using Twitter as a platform to attack people and try tu undermine democracy in the EU?

@EUCommission
I agree, but since you also post these important tips on Mastodon itself, I would ask: what is "illicit" allowing the Federation of Threads at Fediverse?
Why ban it in Europe and not allow Europeans to decide whether or not to use the federation, as in the rest of the world?

@EUCommission can yall like ban meta and perchance amazon please

@EUCommission I think the work here is good and exciting, but in my opinion the work is not done until Apple has been made to discontinue the per-install fee on non-App-Store software for iPhone. Apple is "complying" in a malicious, punitive way which makes it impossible to actually take advantage of the platform opening.

@EUCommission How they are complying if I still can't talk between whatsapp and other IMs? I can't access easily pages on facebook/instagram and I'm constantly blocked (and nagged to sign up for an account…)

@EUCommission I left X- twitter today and joined Mastodon. Why?, because I don't think X has any social responsibility, and is in some respects veering towards anarchy. #X #BoyCottElon

@EUCommission

"All decisions and potential fines will be paused while the review is completed, but technical work on the cases will continue, the officials said."

Financial Times · EU reassesses tech probes into Apple, Google and MetaBy Javier Espinoza

@EUCommission No Zuckerberg move for "free speech" at #meta #instagram #facebookexit or Musk' s #x as well on #TicToc not matter if owned by China or maybe #musk in the future - read freedom = no #fascism

@EUCommission You are garbage.

DSA and DMA are the law that European politicians are trying to misuse for censorship.

@politik

Is this your first conspiracy theory you are pushing? 🤔
